The Annual encounter between SHUGC County Senior Man and Shropshire County Senior Ladies took place at Shifnal GC.
This “friendly” but incredibly competitive match finished all square with both sides ending up with 9 points each. The match is played over 18 holes in a fourball betterball format on a handicap basis.
Kathy Evans, County Seniors Ladies Captain, said after the match that she “was delighted with the result, based on the form that the men have shown this year, winning 8 out of 9 of their County matches this season”.
Andy Robinson, SHUGC Seniors Captain, was also happy with the result. “After the big win the ladies had over us last year, a halved match, almost feels like a win. The Ladies are very competitive, and although all the matches are played in a great spirit, all of us want the bragging rights of victory for the next twelve months!! This was a really nice way for this years` fixture to finish. We all had really good games, and enjoyed the competition, which at the end of the day, is what golf is all about “.
There were however some interesting “marital” results. Ros Moor County Ladies 1st Team Captain, playing with Lyn Lathe had an epic encounter in the top match against Senior’s Captain Andy Robinson, partnered by Phil Beswick. The Ladies squeezing home by a 1 hole victory. Geoff Moor a regular member of the Seniors team and husband of Ros Moor, playing with David Barlass, also suffered at the hands of the Ladies losing 3/2 against Olive Brown and Carolyn Speke. Meanwhile, Mair Robinson, Andy`s wife and last years Senior Ladies Captain, had a terrific match against Paul Walker and Neville Leonard finishing all square at the end of the game.
In the marital stakes the Wives were definitely the winners.!
