Both the Handicap League and Mini League Finals took place at The Astbury on Monday 14th September. Congratulations to Shifnal Ladies on winning the Handicap League by beating Bridgnorth 3-2. The matches were closely fought with two matches being decided on the 19th. Â Helen Calcutt, (Shifnal Handicap League Captain) received the trophy from County President, Margaret Ratcliffe. It has been 28 years since Shifnal last won this trophy.

The Mini League Final matches were between Church Stretton and Market Drayton. Church Stretton won on holes- up after both teams won 2 matches each. Â Congratulations to Church Stretton.

The County Scratch League Final took place at Lilleshall Hall GC on Sunday 13th September. Congratulations go to the Shifnal Team who won 3-0 against Oswestry. Alex Ling won 6&4 against Vicki Bradbeer; Katelyn Wilkie beat Tania Pearce 3 & 2 whilst Fern Myers beat Rebecca Hollywell 2 & 1. Well done to both teams on reaching the final. Â Thank you to the following:- County President on presenting the Trophy; referee – Judith Thornell; Scratch :League organiser – Sara Bowden and Lilleshall GC for hosting the event.

The SLCGA Autumn Meeting was played at Bridgnorth Golf Club on 7th September. 49 players from 13 clubs participated in this event. Congratulations to the following for the best scores on the day:- Best Gross & Nett Div 1 Julia Line (Llanymynech) – Gross 88 – Nett 76: Â Div 2 Best Nett – Lynne Andreae (Bridgnorth) Nett 73.
Various trophies were also played for on the day:-
Marjorie Wynne Thomas Memorial Trophy (handicaps up to 20.4) with the best aggregate Gross score over the two 18 hole rounds (Summer & Autumn Meetings). Â Winner – Trish McGloin (The Shropshire) 91 – 90 – 181.
Marjorie Wycherley Cup (handicaps 20.5 to 40.0) with the best gross score in either the Summer or Autumn Meetings. Winner – Vanessa Statham (Bridgnorth) – Gross 98.
Wynne Corrie Cup winner Wendy Hudson (Lilleshall Hall) – Nett 75

On Sunday the 30th August, several of our junior girls travelled to Leicestershire to compete in the Annual MNR Golf Championships. The competition was held over 36, 18 and 9-hole events. The course was in good condition with receptive, but slower paced greens from those of the dryer summer conditions. Seven of the girls played in the 36-hole event with Denni Coleman (Llanymynech) winning the overall gross event, with 2 stunning rounds of golf of 75 per round. Aliyah Summers (Bridgnorth) came third in the gross, once again proving that Shropshire have several up-and-coming stars of scratch golf. Â FULL REPORT & photos (pdf)

Despite the threat of thunderstorms throughout the day the President’s Fundraiser took place without hardly any rain. A field of 92 ladies played a 4Ball, step-aside Texas Scramble. Well done to prize winners:-
Best gross was won by the combined Llanymynech and Oswestry team of Anne Weetman, Helen Roberts and Denni Colemen all from Llanymynech and Vicky Bradbeer of Oswestry.  Best nett was won by The Shropshire team of Julia Cave, Linda Deakin, Julie Brewer and Lynda Richards.  Second nett was won by the combined Horsehay and Church Stretton team of Lucy Taylor of Horsehay and Caroline Mansell, Josephine Macdonald and Val Plant of Church Stretton each winning.  Third nett was won by the Llanymynech team of Norma Hughes, Susan Bonsall, Pam Lewis and June Brydon.  Nearest the pin and winning a box of Srixon balls Dee Walker of Shifnal.  An exciting result of the competition was ‘nearest the line’ where both Susan Bonsall & Anne Weetman landed their balls exactly on the line. Well done ladies, each won 2 sleeves of Srixon balls.
