Information

Shropshire Ladies Golf provides opportunities for senior lady golfers (aged 50 or over) to take part in friendly matches and individual competitions.

Players ideally need a handicap index below twenty for the friendly Stableford matches and below 12.0 for the scratch match.

The first match of the season is the friendly scratch match against North Wales Veteran Ladies which involves five 4BBB matches. The venue alternates between home and away on an annual basis. This is a great fixture to enjoy a high standard of senior ladies’ golf from either side of the ropes.

There are three friendly Stableford Matches against Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Herefordshire & Worcestershire based on eight 4BBB teams per match, which alternate annually between home and away venues. The matches are a perfect opportunity to experience the thrill of competition without the stress of an individual card, enjoy great courses in neighbouring counties and a meal after play.

We hold a friendly fixture against Shropshire and Herefordshire (SHUGC) men based on six 4BBB matches.

There is also a Tri-Partite Mixed Trophy which involves six senior ladies from Shopshire partnered with six senior men from the Shropshire element of SHUGC, played against six mixed pairs from both Herefordshire and Worcestershire. Due to the structural mis-match between the men and ladies associations, this match is similar to a society and the Shropshire pairs are selected by SLCGA with no involvement from SHUGC.

The County Seniors’ Championship is an annual individual competition to find the best senior player in the county. Players of all standards are welcome to enter the senior’s championship.  The qualifying round is integrated with the main County Summer Meeting which is a medal event. The top four senior players based on gross score then compete a semi-final and final in one day at the same venue as the Summer Meeting.

How Do I Get Involved?

If you are interested in playing in any of the seniors matches and you are over 50 with a handicap index below 20 then please contact the current Shropshire Ladies County Golf Association  Seniors’ Captain:

All ladies who have shown an interest will be contacted in February to assess their availability for the matches and dates that are available. The team will be selected to ensure we field a competitive team while at the same time trying to ensure that all ladies are offered at least one match. The pairings will be decided by the captain, who will try to ensure new players are matched with a lady who has played before so that the experience is less intimidating.

Midland Senior Women’s Golf Association for ladies aged 50 and over with Handicap under 28. This Association provides a great opportunity for Senior Ladies to play courses further afield.  Shropshire currently has 10 members and are looking to increase this number in 2026.
