With dry and windy conditions, our first 2nd team match our encounter with Derbyshire at Shrewsbury was destined to be fast and furious. Our first foursomes pairing of Laura Morris (from Arscott) and Cat Wilson (from Hawkstone) got off to a good start but by the 9th hole they were 4 down. The Malaysian duo of Angeline Ooi-Walters and Alice Drewnicki (from Hawkstone) were up against it with small mistakes costing them dear. A ray of sunshine came from the experienced pairing of Trish McGloin (from The Shropshire) and Hilary Fowles playing on her own course with a foursomes win of 3 and 2.
At 2:1 down going into the afternoon singles we still had everything to play for, but there was little doubt that this was a strong Derbyshire squad. The weather hotted up and so did the competition with Alice and myself (Julia Line from Llanymynech) getting well beaten, Cat and Trish coming close with their matches going to the 16th and 17th respectively. But congratulations to Laura for halving her match on the tricky 18th and to Angeline for bringing home a well-deserved win on the 16th hole.
Derbyshire won the match 6.5 to 2.5 . It was a fabulous day of competitive golf played in good spirit and Shrewsbury GC really did us proud. Many thanks to Shrewsbury GC and the team.

The Junior Girls played against Cheshire at Eaton GC, resulting in an outstanding win of 4-0. This year, both teams elected to play 4BBB to grow the girl’s experience of the game. Playing against low handicaps, the girls held their own with 3 pairs winning on 16th, and the last pair on the 18th hole. We were very lucky that the rain held off in the main, enabling some great golf to be seen from both sides. Excellent win girls – Well done!
