County Captain’s message ….

It is with enormous pleasure and pride that I report on the results of the Midlands North Matchplay event (“County Week”) at Burton-On-Trent.  Our team, made up from women and juniors from a range of Shropshire clubs, has achieved 2nd place for the 2nd consecutive year in this prestigious event.  Our team battled extremely hard with grit, skill and determination, and we were ranked 1st after the first four matches at the end of day two.  I believe this is the first time Shropshire has achieved this milestone but unfortunately the home team, Derbyshire, we’re too strong for us on the final day.

I am so proud of our team and can’t express in words how grateful I am that they gave up their time to play for Shropshire.  It is truly a memory that I will never forget and a highlight in my golf experiences that I will look back on for many years with warmth and happiness.  I know the team will be disappointed with 2nd place particularly when it was only very small margins that made the difference, but in time I hope they will be as proud as I am of this achievement.

I wish Nottinghamshire the best of luck in the English Women’s County Finals later in the year and to Derbyshire for hosting this event so efficiently.

Thank you also to everyone who gave up their time to come and watch, or provide support during the week.  A special mention to Ann Peters who was a named player, selector and caddy, Louisa Goff again a named player and caddy, and to Viv Davies (Junior Organiser) and Hilary Fowles (Past Captain) who gave me their honest advice on team selection and pairings and caddied every day for the players.  I’d also like to thank Libby Weetman and Nick Peters for caddying.  Thank you finally to Sue for her support and guidance and I’m so glad she was beside me as President when we achieved this result.  Please see below a photo of us with the trophy and the official photo before the event.
