Llanymynech Golf Club’s ladies section has established itself at the forefront of competitive county golf with a clean sweep of county President and Captains over the next two years.
This will be the first time that all Shropshire team Captains and President, will be coming from the same Golf Club :
• Margaret Ratcliffe (from Bicton) is Shropshire’s President 2025 – 2026
• Viv Davies (from Western Rhyn) will be Shropshire’s First Team Captain 2026 – 2027
• Julia Line (from Oswestry) is Shropshire’s Second Team Captain 2025 – 2026
• Norma Hughes (from Selattyn) will be Shropshire’s Senior Captain 2026 – 2027
• Denni Coleman (from Llanymynech) is Shropshire’s Junior Captain 2025

Margaret started playing golf at Church Stretton when she was 40. She became the Club Lady Captain and achieved a handicap of 8. She started playing County second team golf and was Captain in 2001 – 2003. She then went straight into first team Captain in 04-05. She held various positions on the County Committee, Chairman and Secretary and Chairman of the County golf Partnership. She joined Llanymynech in 2016. She feels very privileged to be asked to be County Lady President for 2025-2026.
Following early retirement from a successful career in education, Viv was asked to take on the role of Junior Organiser for SLCGA. Although a huge role, it proved to be a very rewarding and enjoyable role which has lasted 8 years and has seen many talented players develop from junior level up to the County first team and beyond!! Viv is honoured to have been asked to take on the role of County Captain for 2026 and is looking forward to the challenges the role offers.
Julia started playing golf after finishing employment as the Manager of Telford Ice Rink, when she was 50 years old. When the Bulthy GC closed she moved to Llanymynech and hasn’t looked back. Julia plays 2nd Team county golf and Senior county golf. Her greatest golfing achievement was coming runners up in the Coronation Foursomes at St Andrews in 2018 with her best buddy Norma. Julia says “as Shropshire County 2nd team captain 2025 and 2026 I am looking to beat both Derbyshire and Staffordshire and get through to the County 2nd Team Finals”.
At the age of 58 years, and thinking about retirement, Norma decided to give golf a try. Llanymynech were participating in a scheme to encourage ladies to try out the sport supported by Wales Golf. She has since represented Llanymynech at St Andrews, gained her county colours in 2024 and is this year’s County Senior Ladies Vice Captain.
Denni started playing golf at the age of eight. She attends the Marches school in Oswestry, has been playing county golf for three years and was the most improved county junior player in 2023. Denni was voted by her peers to be Junior Captain for 2025 and is looking forward to having lots of fun with her mates. At the tender age of fourteen she has huge golfing potential and would love to become a Golf Professional.
With such a clean sweep of officers, Llanymynech Golf Club ladies are hoping to take the county scene from strength to strength and represent the Club as a flagship for competitive golf.
