On Wednesday the 27th May, 13 girls from SLCGA took part in the annual Stableford Competition at The Shropshire Golf Course. 11 of the girls played the 18 hole competition over the Gold then Blue course in very hot conditions. With some great golf and the ball running, the scores were high. Wren Humphries was third (34 points), Isabella Smith (36 points) took second place with Emilie Thomas (50 points) winning outright. The 9 hole competition was played over the tricky gold course with Leni Humphries in second place and Ava Hodgson the victor. The girls all played some great golf in stifling heat. Prizes were awarded post the competition by SLCGA Captain Viv Davies.

Well done to our Scratch and Handicap teams who played Leicestershire and Rutland on 16th May, at Church Stretton GC. A wet and windy day didn’t deter our young players and walked away with a 2.5 – 1.5 loss in the scratch match. Despite 2 byes from L&R handicap team (as they couldn’t field 2 handicap players), they won all their 3 matches and we took a full 5 points for the match. As always, we are very proud of the way the girls present and play. We also received several laudable comments about well the girls looked and played as a team by the opposition lady coach.

A team of Senior ladies played a 4BBB handicap match against Staffordshire Senior Ladies at Market Drayton GC on Wednesday 13th May. The weather was challenging at times with gusty winds and downpours however this did not prevent the match from going ahead. Unfortunately Shropshire lost the match 3-5. SLCGA thanks Market Drayton from hosting the event.

Senior Team v Staffs at Market Drayton

A very young Squad made their way to Walsall GC on Sunday 3rd May to play in the MNR League match against Staffordshire. An awesome performance from the girls saw a 3/1 win in the scratch match, and a 3/2 win in the handicap match. A great effort from Emilie Thomas who won 8 & 7 against her opponent in the handicap match.

A big well done to the girls Sophia Evans and Isabella Smith, whose first appearance playing for the squad was stepping up into the scratch team foursomes event, and taking a win. Also, congratulations to Francesca Nursey (with a win), Ava Hodgson and Sanam Sharma on their first appearance for the Handicap squad. Some tired legs out there, but as usual, the Shropshire girl’s resilience shone through. Well done girls.

Congratulations to Katie Halliday (Telford) on winning the SLCGA County Championship which was played at Oswestry Golf Club.

After the 18 hole qualifier round, which took place on 3rd May, the best 8 Gross scores went into a Matchplay competition. Qualifying 18 hole Results.
Those who did not qualify for the Championship were placed in a matchplay event to compete for The Plate. Congratulations to Melissa Hughes (Hawkstone Park) on winning the Plate.
