The girls faced two strong opponents in the opening matches of the season at Willesley Park on Sunday 16 April. The MNR Scratch league saw a new format with the counties playing 3 singles matches and 1 foursomes match at each event. The morning session saw our girls play against a strong Lincolnshire team with Lauren Crump, Katelyn Wilkie and Abby Birchall playing in the singles games and our Junior Captain Jess Warren and Vice Captain Seren Ramsey playing in the foursomes game. The squad welcomed Seren Ramsey from Llanymynech to her first scratch match. After some very closely fought games, we took a 21/2 – 11/2 victory over Lincolnshire.

The afternoon session saw us taking on our close rivals Derbyshire with Sophie Brothwood making her scratch team debut. Lauren, Katelyn and Sophie played the singles and this time round Jess partnered Abby in the foursomes match. It was a very tense afternoon with the situation constantly changing over the course of the matches. However, the girls dug in and we finished with an amazing 4 – 0 victory!

This was a fantastic start to our 2023 season and congratulations to all the girls who were a credit to the County.
