Club Team Championships – 3 Ball Alliance

On Thursday 4th July 28 teams played in a three ball alliance to battle it out for the Mary Black Cup and the Janet Blockley Salver. Over 11 different clubs entered teams into both trophy events, plus 5 other team that also played for the daily prizes.

Winners of the Mary Black Cup were Alison Grove, Lisa Hales and Suzanne Huxley from Bridgnorth who won with a net 131 over Angela Boxall, Julie Wales and Susan Robson representing Hawkstone Park with a net 135.

The clear winners from the Janet Blockley Salver came from the Shropshire GC. Sue Field, Ann Mountford and Sandra Woodward returned with a fantastic nett 120 with the runners up of Jenny Heath, Karen Ashcroft and Susan Morgan of Church Stretton managing a good score of 127 net.

The first day prize was won by the mixed team representing Horsehay Village and Church Stretton Ann Caunce, Karen Ashcroft and Katy Thompson with a net of 127, second place went to the Church Streton team of Jenny Heath, Karen Ashcroft and Susan Morgan also with a net 127 losing on the back 9. The third prize was won by The Shropshire team of Heather Percy, Lynda Richards and May Kendall with a net 129.

There were 11 twos; Dawn Bethell (Bridgnorth), Suzanne Huxley (Bridgnorth); Shirley Barre (Meole Brace), Lisa Hales (Bridgnorth); Julie Wales (Hawkstone Park); Alison Grove (Bridgnorth); Julie Brewer (The Shropshire), Sally Weaver (Bridgnorth), Janet Whittal (Leominster); Isabel Green (Shrewsbury), Susan Field (The Shropshire).

Despite the dry conditions the course stood up to the task and was well presented by Chesterton Vally Golf Club. The host club provided some excellent catering that was flexible in its offering meaning players to eat before, after or take a sandwich out on the course.

NEXT EVENTS

  • TUESDAY 22 July – The SUMMER MEETING at The Astbury Golf Club which will include The Marjorie Wycherley Cup for those under 20.4, round 1 of the Marjorie Wynne Thomas Trophy for those 20.5 – 40.0. And it is the Senior Championship Qualifier as well as the Sally Shrimpton Cup (sen’or’s best nett) and the Jo Marvell Trophy for the best gross for those over 70 years.
  • THURSDAY 28 August – Two Ball Texas Scramble 9 hole competition at Horsehay Golf Club. AND the best of all this is open to ALL handicappers (i.e. up to 54.0 WHS) so please encourage all your higher handicappers to join in for you all know how much they will enjoy it. Why not even make a high low pairing to encourage the higher handicappers to join as you will be there to hold their hand.
