Our County 2nd Team played Staffordshire at Enville on 1st August. It was an overcast and damp early start at Enville with the first tee being 8.20am. The scorched fairways and lurking hazards soon caught out our foursomes pairings as we got off to a tricky start. By halfway the shades were out and we were up in one match leading to a great win by Laura Morris from Arscott and Gemma Hampson from Llanymynech.
Ali Grove from Bridgnorth and Alice Drewnicki from Hawkstone struggled against a very experienced Staffordshire pairing and although Isabel Green from Shrewsbury and Becca Hollywell from Oswestry rallied well on the back 9 we were 2:1 down after the morning’s play.
As the Highgate course backed up in the afternoon the pace of play ground to a snail’s pace making it difficult for all the singles matches.
The highlights were Laura winning with a score of 6 and 5, Ali taking her player to the 17th and Isabel was thrilled to take her player all the way to the 18th, but Staffordshire on their home course were just too strong winning 7: 2.
